A Message From The President

Welcome to 2021

Trust everyone had a joyful Xmas period and back into the swing of things. Footy is just around the corner so happy to provide everyone an update with what’s been happening

Football Department

Delighted to announce that Adam Floreani has been appointed to the position of B-grade coach for season 2021.

Adam has been a tremendous servant of the club over many years as a player and is now ready to make the step up as a leader. The Floreani family have enjoyed a storied history with the SHOC Footy Club and Adsy’s appointment marks a new chapter in that story. We are very excited to welcome Adam, Ella and family into this official role.

In further exciting news, Tim Griffith AKA ‘The Big Show’ has been appointed as C grade coach. TG is a giant of the club in many ways and has enjoyed tremendous success as a player and leader at the SHOC Footy Club. Tim has stated that he is “excited and grateful for the opportunity. Looking forward to working with a great coaching and playing group, in particular the mighty C-Men, and making a contribution to another successful year for our great club.”…how good!

We are continuing discussions with the SANFL juniors as to the structure of the rebadged U18 comp and maintain the club’s position that we will forge ahead to deliver a team in this format. The club is also investigating the feasibility of an Auskick program in conjunction with options to expand into a junior football program. Anyone that would like to get involved, we would be more than happy to chat about this.

Round 1 is scheduled at this stage for 1st weekend after Easter, 10th April. We are looking to host as many games on the ‘main oval’ as possible to align with functions, so stay tuned for more

Strategic Planning

Our subcommittee has laid the foundations prior to Xmas and continue to work through what we stand for. In the coming weeks, Bomber Whelan and myself are catching up with Steve Byrne to discuss one of the key elements that our club faces, Home Base and Facilities. Will continue to update our members as we work through our strategy.

Past Players/Records

Our records have been updated and can confirm that we have reached 1667 players representing the blue and blue. This is a great resource that we are looking to engage further with so keep an eye out for an invite into the ‘Past Players Facebook‘ page.

Pending final release of league draw, early planning has commenced for a combined function on the main oval early in the season. The launch of a ‘past players’ day in conjunction with celebrating premiership reunions, 2001 A & B grade and 2011 C & D grade and would also like to acknowledge our history by way of introduction of heritage round. To further make the day a highlight, we will also be presenting some well over due Life Memberships. Should be a ripper day.

With the recent update of records, it has shown that we have missed a number of milestones.

Congratulations to the following for achieving 100 games:

  • Tristian Carcuro,
  • Nick Fahey,
  • Andy Gibb,
  • Michael Johnston,
  • Harry Kitschke,
  • Joe Taylor,
  • Marcus Walkington

Hayden ‘Melon’ Wooldridge moved into 13th spot on all time playing list with 239 games, just 3 games behind the ever young Nick ‘Skinny’ Forster on 242.

Feedback

Thankyou to those who provided feedback for our survey. This has also helped us shape some of our strategy conversations with a common theme resonating through the responses:

  • Player Retention
  • Communication with its members
  • A strong proud club with great networks with a unique culture

Other News

  • SHOCFC Shed. You may have seen driving past Brighton Rd oval the addition of a 20ft container. We are working on converting this into valuable storage for our club and creating a space for trainers to attend to players during the wetter months. Many thanks to Wes Delmenico and Weslec for the donation and will provide a separate update once our shed is complete.
  • SHOC ‘n’ Bowl, Sunday Feb 7th from 3pm. A great opportunity to gather in the lead up to the 2021 Netball and Footy seasons with a fun afternoon/evening of barefoot bowls, live music and bbq! All welcome to attend.
  • Also, great to see energy in the Netball club with the development of a U17s program as we look to continue to develop both clubs on and off the playing arenas
  • Electronic scoreboard on its way to Middle School.

Stay safe and tune in for further updates.

Cheers
Lucky (Dave Underwood)
