Message from the Senior Coach – July 2017

SHOCFC-Background

Back to back games on the Main Oval is great for our footy club and it was fantastic to see many of our Sponsors out last week for the annual sponsors lunch. Thanks to everyone that attended and a broader thank you to all our sponsors and supporters – the whole coaching and playing group very much appreciate the support.

The 18s had a win on Sunday with a kick after the siren to beat Rosewater to round out 4 wins for the club on the weekend.

The As played a terrific brand of footy and with 34 shots to 4 it shows what they can deliver when switched on. The Bs continue to play solid and uncompromising footy week in week out and despite a few away and injured, the Cs were down on numbers but still managed a 10 goal win….

We have 1 more game before the Bye and this week we look forward to “welcoming” Athelstone to the Main Oval with a score to settle from last time when both the As and Cs went down by 2 points.

Ladies Day

It’s also Ladies Day at the Main Oval, hosted by the SHOC Netball Club, so if there are any ladies that haven’t got tickets yet, get involved, I am sure that everyone will enjoy themselves (click on image to right to book your tickets).

We had a shocking run on injuries early in the season and while we still have quite a few on the sidelines. thankfully most of the players should be back playing soon.

We had previously thought that Nathan Davies was out for the season but he has recovered quite well and we hope to welcome him back to playing soon. Lachy Button is out of the moon boot but he won’t be ready to run for at least another 6 weeks so sadly he won’t be back in time. With Ryan Clarke, we had hoped it wasn’t too serious when he went over on his ankle but sadly it required surgery so he’s out for the rest of the year.

Whilst injuries are part of our game, it’s always disappointing when players go down and miss extended periods. With Buddha and Clarkey, they both had terrific pre seasons and hardly missed a session and with Clarkey, his early season form was simply outstanding, dismantling last year’s State Ruckman back in Round 1 against Broadview.

An interesting point is that so far we have played 35 players in the As and 46 players in the Bs – showing that we have great depth in our club.

Of the other injuries, there are at least 10 -15 to come back over the coming weeks which will add great depth and help our push towards the finals.

It’s a tough run home before finals with Athelstone (Main Oval), Gaza (away), PHOS (Thebby), Henley (away) and Pembroke (Main Oval) but with all 4 sides sitting in the 5, it’s simply down to us as to how we perform over the next 5 games and we are in control of our own destiny, which is how we like it.

Thanks again for everyone’s support.   GO SHOCS….
