Chairman’s Message

On behalf of the committee of the Football Club it’s my pleasure to welcome all players,  sponsors and supporters to season 2013 proper.  It has been a busy off-season with a number of new coaching and administrative appointments made. Additionally there have been a record number of players who have returned. This has made for a great buzz around the place.
Our new senior coach, Peter Caven, and his coaching panel have enthusiastically led the boys through pre-season and have them looking super-fit.  the outstanding numbers at training are a clear indication that the players have embraced Peters coaching style.   Peter, best of luck for the season ahead. This sentiment goes out to all coaches but particularly fellow first timers Michael Sweatman and Nick Tate, B and C Grade coaches.

For the first time the club has a Football Director.  This is an important and time consuming, role. This position is responsible for all the organisational functions of football – from securing ovals and umpires to ensuring all players are registered. Simon Kay has  made a great fist of this.

I would like to acknowledge the effort that Simon and Adam Marling put into player recruitment during the off-season. Their active approach to recruitment was a key reason we have had 9 past players return.  The warmest of welcome-backs go out to:  Tony Raneberg, Andew Tomlin, Tom Moten, Jack Fosdike, Patty Whitelum, Mitch Bosley, Danny Wray, Adam Rice and Nick Timmers.

At committee level David Whelan has retired from the Presidency. This role has been replaced with a Chairman. I’d like to acknowledge and thank Bomber for the tireless effort he has put in over the past few years.

We are endeavouring to improve our communication to supporters and to give better value to our sponsors. To this end each Friday, beginning next week, an email will go out with the weekend fixture and teams.  Additionally, fout times a year Cop Your Wack will be handed out at games. And not least of all Pat Hollis, father of Sam, and owner of Possum IT is rebuilding the Club website. Pat tells us it will be a far better user experience.

Our thanks goes to all sponsors who are supporting the Club this year, in particular our major partner The Bay Motel and Hotel. Simply without the support of sponsors it would not be possible to field teams.  Please speak with Dion Moroney or Justin Hartshorne in regard to sponsorship.

Finally the catalyst for the changes and improved level of organisation at the Club were from the recommendations Rob McKay made as part of the Annual Review he completed of Season 2012. Thanks for the great work Rob.

I hope you too can feel the buzz that has been around the club. If you do feel it, embrace it and actively get behind the boys out on the park and back at the BMH. Enjoy your season.
