Under 18 Young Guns Hang On for 2017 Premiership – Video Highlights

A fantastic Season for the SHOC Under 18’s young cubs came to a dramatic and successful end on Sunday at Payneham oval with a nail biting 2 point win against our local arch -rivals PHOS Camden.

PHOS burst out of the blocks and led by 12 points at quarter time and after some words of wisdom from Coach Bob and magnificent magnet movement by Ass Coach Marcus Walkington, the SHOC boys piled on 4 goals to 2 in to 2nd Quarter to lead by 2 points at the main change.  2 goals each in the 3rd Quarter meant that SHOC maintained its 2 point lead at the last change.

The amazing support from the SHOC Senior players, families and supporters outnumbered the PHOS supporters 3 to 1 as the huddles listened to the coaches last words to their young men, this support was a large factor in the last quarter as the crowd was on its feet as SHOC stretched its lead to 8 points but to its credit, PHOS kept coming and SHOC Under 18’s were able to hold on and win the 2017 Premiership by 2 points. This started celebrations, hugs and high 5’s that continued all evening at the BMH and back at the Pott’s residence.

Discipline and Team First play won the day for SHOC as PHOS continued to give away penalties late in the game. Overall a great game of football which shows that the future of both clubs is assured with the quality of young men coming through to Senior Football.

The Under 18 Group was very well led by 2 quality young men in Henry ‘Coach Bob’ Spurling and Assistant Coach Marcus ‘The Sledge’ Walkington, well supported by the best runner in the business, Austin Kiddy and Team Manager Joe Paparella.David and Ingrid McKay have supported this team of young men for the past 5 years as their boys have played in this team, the SHOC Community thanks you very much. Andrew and Karen Kelly also supported the team very well this year, these families have a never ending supply of oranges and lollies!!

The club legend in Tony ‘Whenzo’ Whennan was on hand almost every week to do any role that was required, from manning the score board to interchange steward at the GF, Whenzo we salute you. Undies should take a lot of credit for the success of this young group, many that he has coached for the past 3 years, the benefits are now showing in the Seniors teams Undies, thanks mate.
