President’s 2015 mid-season report

Firstly it’s good to see the SHOC FC back in Division 1 this year where we belong. The coaches are covering the on-field performance in their reports, which we’ll bring to you over the next few weeks, but from a footy development point of view we are really pleased to see a number of under 18 players from last year looking quite at home playing senior football. Guys like Zac Delmenico, Ryan Clarke, Dan Moroney, Marcus Walkington, Doug Proud, Anton Vizzari, Jack Turton and Will Sharp are having excellent seasons. Spud, Undies, Sweaty and Heath are doing a great job in developing these guys to be future A graders.

With the decision to reluctantly abandon the D grade this year we have used the opportunity to program a number of triple headers with C grade playing at 10:15am prior to the B grade which has proven to be a great success.

Off field the club is in a good position financially. We have record Sponsorship (thanks Dion), games at the main oval, record merchandise sales and a brand new set of A and B grade inside out Guernseys thanks to Badge and Taylor Collison. The committee has done a fantastic job so far this year led by new footy operations manager Nick Tait and club legend Neil “Noddy”

O’Dea. Noddy has taken on the treasurers role and has done a power of work this year. I’ve never known someone who can still leave you feeling good after he has just taken all your money. He is also now the SHOC Merchandise manager and as a result we may actually make a profit on the club merchandise for the first time since 1985!  In addition he has collected over 10K in player subs, sold lucky squares on match days, pays the umpires every week and is running the “Giant” Raffle. Clearly his talents were wasted as the D grade coach for the past 10 years!

As most would be aware it costs us approx 80k to run the club which includes paying calls to the SAAFL, paying umpires (over $1000 per week for 3 sides), paying physios and trainers, buying medical equipment and strapping…..footys….the list goes on. This would not be possible without the generous support of Sponsors, especially our major sponsor the Bay Motel Hotel (Greg Viles) and our Platinum Sponsors – Badge Constructions and Taylor Collision. A big thanks to Jim Whiting at Badge and Michael and David Whiting at Taylor Collision for increasing their sponsorship to 5k this year. Also really pleasing to have all of our Gold, Silver and Player Sponsors on board again in 2015, it’s really appreciated. Hopefully see you all at the sponsors lunch on June 20th.

It’s been great to get 4 home games back at the main oval this year which has been possible due to the support of the college. Big thanks principal Steve Byrne who has gone out of his way to support the SHOCFC wherever possible and Paul ”Morgs” Morgan who has prepared the main oval for us.

Thanks also to Bregetta Spurling for organising the BBQ trailer, no easy task! Also Steph and Justin Hartshorne and Peter Jennings for running the bbq trailer at home games this year.

Don’t forget if you are gold, silver or player sponsor, or a cardiac you need to let me know if you will be attending the sponsors lunch next sat at Glenelg Oval where we play Portland. If you are a supporter and would like to attend the lunch it’s a cost of $75 for a two course meal and drinks, once again just let me know if you would like to attend.

Cheers

 Scott Collins – President
