SHOCFC Celebrates 50 Years In Style

What a Night!

What a fantastic night we had celebrating our first 50 years together.  Nearly 500 people gathered at the Morphettville Racecourse Pavilion Room to remember the good times we’ve shared and to honour some of our greats.  We had people fly in especially for the event from the USA, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, and had players from every decade represented, including a few of the original team members.  Now that is dedication to the SHOC cause!

The venue looked a treat, decorated in SHOC colours and with memoribilia and pictures galore.  The SHOC band led by Joe Kitschke provided just the right level of background music, and the food and drinks were abundant. Check out the photos from the night here.

The main auction for the two framed Heritage Guernseys was lively, and after some spirited bidding (we even had “proxy” bidders!!) the successful bidders were club legends Jim “Jumbo” Whiting and Dave “Bomber” Whelan.

Then followed a very emotional auction of club stalwart Todd de Visser’s framed Heritage Guernsey, with all proceeds from this auction to be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis foundation in honour of Todd and his wife Elle who’s son Parker has recently been diagnosed with CF.  This resulted in much tougher resistance than Gaza provided earlier in the day for Todd’s brother Ryan, who had to battle spirited opposition from club legend Chris Monaghan, as well as others, before taking home the bikkies.  The Cystic Fibrosis foundation was the big winner on the night to the tune of $4,200!!

As well as the framed guernseys, the heritage jumpers worn on the day by our A Grade team were also auctioned via a silent auction process.  This was an outstanding success.  If we had another 20 jumpers they would have gone as well!

President Scott Collins gave a brief overview of the history of the club and Justin Ganley then interviewed some of our 300 and 400 game greats – Neil “Noddy” O’Dea, Tony Whennan and Paul Fahey, whilst Scott interviewed the 4th member of this illustrious group, Justin himself.

This will be a night long remembered for the celebration of the camaraderie we share at this unique Footy Club.  As Scott mentioned on the night, we are very proud that we have maintained our strict “no player payments” policy over our 50 year journey and that the club culture, built around our core values of friendship and mateship, equality and a sense of belonging are still as strong today as they were 50 years ago.

May the next 50 be just as strong!  Check out the photos from the night here.
