U/18’s 2014 Mid-Season Review

Undies

After 11 Rounds the Under 18’s are sitting 3rd on the ladder with 9 wins and 2 losses.

Our losses to date have been to Goodwood Saints and Flinders Park, both of which along with Henley and ourselves seem to be the sides that will battle it out come finals.

So far we have had 35 players play this season in the Under 18’s which bodes well for future progression into the Senior grades.

Unlike some of the teams, predominately we have a very young side with only 1 over age player playing regularly. In fact over half of our side are still in year 11 at school. Our team also is overall quite small in size but we combat this by having a group that have terrific skills and pace.

We have had some amazing games this year. The highlights have been wins against Henley at Henley, which are older and much bigger. Despite them trying to bully our lads they knuckled down and didn’t take their eye of the ball at any stage and had a great win. The other highlight was a win against Port Districts where we were down to 17 players shortly after the start. A very gutsy performance for 4 quarters saw another super win by 10 goals.

Our best is superb and the challenge for our group will be to see if we can bring our best against older and bigger opponents come finals time.

The lads are a pleasure to coach, they listen and take on board feedback. We are also very fortunate to have my brother “Lucky Dave” as our runner and have Dion and Shaun Moroney and Wes Delmenico support us match days along with Pat Lambert who has helped out coaching as well.

Overall though, the most pleasing thing is that each and every player has improved since the start of the season.

I am very much looking forward to seeing how they further progress in the last half of the year.
